COVID Assist

Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures! Being a small volunteer run organisation we have the ability to rapidly adapt to meet the needs of our community.

Today we launch COVID Assist. Providing financial assistance to Western Australian families who find themselves in the Neonatal Unit and have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. Guidelines below.

COVID-19 Pandemic Relief - Once off small grants

(COVID Assist)

The Tiny Sparks WA board (Board) has made provision to assist the community we serve by providing once-off small grants. The grants are available for three months, from 7 April to 7 July 2020 unless the amount allocated by the Board is exhausted before that time.

The criteria to receive a grant requires that:

  1. You must be a resident in Western Australia; and

  2. You must be the parent of a premature or sick infant who is currently in the NICU or SCN (or have passed away after 1 March 2020); and

  3. One of the parents must have lost their job due to the COVID virus and be able to show us evidence of that such as a separation certificate from their previous employer.

  4. All regional families are eligible regardless of point 3 above.

The Board will consider applications on a case by case basis and may contact families to provide additional assistance. We anticipate that families will be granted with a $100 Coles/Woolworths voucher and a $100 petrol voucher. Upon application we will also consider:

  • paying phone bills of one or both parents so that they can stay in touch during this time;

  • providing phone credit to one or both parents so they can stay in touch during this time;

  • providing additional petrol vouchers for outer metro and regional families travelling to the NICU;

  • providing any other relief that fits within our budget that a family can evidence need of.

We welcome families who are currently in crisis due to the COVID-19 Pandemic to contact us so that we can work to assist you as best as possible during this unprecedented time. While we have set some criteria’s around this grant, we are open to assisting as many families as possible. All you need to do is send us an email with some information and state how you fit the criteria.

The Board reserves their rights to amend, extend, cancel, change or increase the once-off grants at any time in response to the developing crisis.

Please e-mail covid@tinysparkswa.org.au and provide your details for our consideration. If you have documents such as your drivers licence, separation certificate, baby’s hospital crib card, (or similar) then include them in your e-mail, a photograph of these with your phone is fine! We know that having a baby in the Neonatal Unit is challenging enough without the burden of cumbersome processes to access much needed funds. We will work with you to make this as easy as possible!

March Coffee Morning

We've all heard the saying, it takes a village, let us become part of your village! We welcome you to join us for a cuppa and a chat at our informal coffee morning on Monday March 9, from 10am at Blue Lotus Cafe, 170 Hamilton Street, Balcatta (within the Waldecks). Everyone welcome!

This is an opportunity to get together to connect and chat about high-risk pregnancy, bedrest, the neonatal unit and the challenges our 'tiny sparks' face when growing up.

Our Crafty Creators are also more than welcome to come along and drop off any of their wonderful creations.

HBF Run for a Reason 2020

The HBF Run for a Reason returns to the streets of Perth on Sunday May 24. This is an incredible opportunity to help us make a difference in Western Australia. In past years as a direct result of funds raised through HBF Run we have been able to produce free information booklets on surviving bedrest, milestone cards, sponsor Developmental Playgroup placements, donate mobile phone chargers, coffee machines, microwaves and a huge number of other items for parent lounges in different Neonatal Units. This year we would love to hear from you about what would have made the most impact during your high-risk pregnancy or Neonatal Unit stay.

For us the HBF Run is more than a fundraising opportunity. Whilst that is important as a volunteer run organisation funded solely via donation we feel the sense of community is even more important. We would love for you to join our team by following these simple steps:

  1. Click on the β€˜Join our Team’ button below.

  2. Input all of your details.

  3. Choose your distance. You are welcome to particulate in whichever category suits you best. If you would like to walk together as a group please choose β€˜4km Wave E Families and Prams’.

  4. On the β€˜Official Charities’ page enter β€˜Tiny Sparks WA’ in the keyword field and then select us when we show up.

  5. Set up a personal fundraising page if you would like to. When prompted during registration you will be transferred to the Everyday Hero platform to complete this task. Please choose β€˜Tiny Sparks WA’ when registering. You can link your personal fundraising page to our team page here - https://hbfrun2020.everydayhero.com/au/team-tiny-sparks-wa

  6. Confirm your details and make your payment.

Please note: You will need to either collect your event pack or have it mailed out to you.

We welcome you to ask your friends, family and work colleagues to also join our team, the more the merrier!

Christmas 2019

Spending any special occasion in hospital is extremely challenging for families. This Christmas thanks to our incredible Crafty Creators we have once again been able to gift a keepsake item to every baby in Western Australia, in a Neonatal Unit or Special Care Nursery Bed on Christmas morning. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our friends at Foote & Flame each baby also received a beautiful Christmas tree ornament to commemorate their 1st Christmas. We know these items mean so much to the recipient families and are treasured for many years to come.

Foote & Flame have generously supported Tiny Sparks WA at Christmas for many years and we would encourage you think of them first if you are in need of a cake topper, or personalised gift.
