Federal Funding for Preterm Birth Prevention

We are thrilled to see the Federal Governments strong commitment to Women, especially funding for maternal healthcare initiatives through the Budget. Nation wide work on preterm birth prevention has been happening with excellent results over the past two years and it’s incredible to see additional funding to reach the remaining hospitals over the next two years.

We were recently involved in the showcase in Canberra for the Breakthrough Collaborative. This was such a marvellous celebration of the work completed to date but also highlighted the work still to be done, especially for our First Nations families.

More information about the seven interventions for the prevention of preterm birth can be found on the Alliance website.

Mother's Day 2024

Spending a special occasion in hospital is really difficult for families. One of the ways we support families in a Neonatal Unit is by providing a special gift to mark the occasion. On Mother’s Day we were delighted to provide more than 300 gifts to hospitals all over Western Australia.

Every Week Counts Showcase Canberra

Recently Amber travelled to Parliament House, Canberra for the Every Week Counts Showcase. She was honoured to be the opening speaker of the event to discuss The Power of Consumers in the Collaborative. Amber has been a member of the Consumer Advisory Group since it’s inception and has been working with the WA groups for many years. More than 300 people attended this event from 65 hospitals all over Australia.

The Collaboratives initiatives for safely lowering the rates of earlyterm and preterm birth can be found here. So far participating hospitals have seen a marked improvement in their rates of earlyterm and preterm birth but there is still a lot of work to do! We are hopeful that future funding will enable more hospitals to participate in the program in the future.

Telethon Beneficiaries

This morning Board Members Amber and Elisha attended the Telethon Beneficiary breakfast to celebrate Tiny Sparks inclusion as one of a record 136 beneficiaries!

It was marvellous to hear moving stories from the community about the impact donations to Telethon have. A really moving morning to be a part of. Telethon generously supports our Care Package program along with the Nurturing NICU Families program that we launched with Nicole Pates of Western Kids Health last year.

We are truly honoured to be year on year beneficiaries, something that we don’t take for granted and remain committed to forging a brighter future for children and families impacted by high-risk pregnancy and the Neonatal Unit in WA.
